STAGE ONE

THE FLASH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The inspiration of COMPASSION from the holy spirit came through Archbishop James Mwewa Spaita as flash of light, an intense passion, an awakening that could not leave him no matter how much he tried to ignore it.  Through out his life as a young priest, Fr. Spaita was touched by seeing that a person can do marvelous work for people he/she doesn’t love.  He always tried to share his inspiration (push) ignite/sell the spirit of compassion with the people he integrated/ worked encountered with especially in dealing with children.

As a priest, the first bishop of the diocese Rene piolloux M.Afri.  had appointed him as Education Secretary for all Catholic Schools in Luapula Province.  He worked in this field for a long time till he became Bishop.  He consequently developed passion for growing children. Whenever he saw them in schools or playing in church premises by themselves, he felt pity for them like sheep without a shepherd, growing without proper religious instructions.

It was at a time when the Nation after independence tried to bring in scientific socialism, an ideology that preaches non-existence of God. That’s is why he later on encouraged sisters very much to run pre-schools. He saw that if children were guided, the society will be safeguarded.

When he became Bishop of Mansa, Spaita was convinced that Religious Sisters were the most ideal to give the young ones the motherly guidance they needed but the Diocese did not have enough Sisters to respond to the great need at hand. After conSPM_A0260sultations with the different structures of missionary Religious and the Clergy in the Diocese it was clearly felt that a local congregation was needed.  These would carry on the works that were being done by the present groups and engage in new ministries in the fight of sickness and ignorance according to the signs of the times.
